Anger Therapy

 

VanPsych is pleased to announce that it will be offering a 20-week group psychotherapy treatment for individuals who have anger problems. The treatment may be of interest to individuals who have experienced relationship, vocational, health and/or legal problems associated with anger. The treatment is based on an evidenced-based intervention for anger that has been empirically shown to reduce problem anger. The therapy was developed by Drs. Lorne Korman and Karen Choi, and integrates elements of Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

This anger therapy group that will help you to:

  • Understand your anger, and your problem anger patterns

  • Improve your ability to regulate your emotions

  • Reduce your emotional sensitivity and rigidity

  • Change angry styles of thinking

  • Develop skills to resolve and become more effective in conflict

 

Start Date: November 2022

Time: Tuesdays 2:00pm - 4:00pm

Group Facilitators

Dr. Lorne Korman

Dr. Korman is a registered psychologist and Clinical Director of VanPsych. He has published research on the treatment of anger and emotion dysregulation. Previously he was Head of the Anger and Addiction Clinic at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. He is featured in the American Psychological Association video Working with Anger. Dr. Korman is Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UBC.

 

Dr. Kyle Burns

Dr. Burns is a psychiatrist, co-founder of VanPsych, and Chair of the Board of Directors of Anxiety Canada. Previously he was the Medical lead for Vancouver Coastal Health Authority’s Child and Youth Mental Health Program. Dr. Burns is Clinical Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry at UBC.
